    Packaging and precision assembly of photonic and optoelectronic devices is the work of Alter Technology TÜV Nord UK at Livingston in West Lothian, the former Optocap, renamed in November 2019. Its quantum projects include QT Assemble, Fraunhofer CAP's consortium on making quantum components smaller and easier to build, and Pioneer Gravity, the ISCF project on a cold-atom gravity sensor. In April 2022 the Alter group opened a Photonics Design Centre at the University of Strathclyde's Technology and Innovation Centre in Glasgow and set out about €6 million over three to five years for it and the Livingston plant, aimed at quantum navigation and satellite optical communications.
