    Research organisation · Cardiff

The Compound Semiconductor Centre is a joint venture between wafer maker IQE and Cardiff University that develops compound semiconductor materials and devices in South Wales. Its quantum role came through QFoundry (August 2020 to April 2024), a £4 million Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund consortium it led to set up an open-access UK foundry for quantum semiconductor parts. The work focused on single-mode VCSEL lasers and on quantum dot and quantum well single-photon emitters and detectors, with partners including Toshiba, IQE, NPL, Bay Photonics, Microchip and the universities of Cambridge, Sheffield and Cardiff.
