Newport's Compound Semiconductor Applications Catapult, which now trades as the Semiconductor Catapult with labs in Newport, Bristol and Glasgow, counts quantum photonics and sensing among the device work its engineering teams take on. Its quantum record is as a consortium partner. It was one of 12 partners in QFoundry, a £4m Compound Semiconductor Centre project (August 2020 to April 2024) to create an open-access UK foundry for quantum components such as single-photon emitters and detectors. It also took part in BT's AIRQKD trial of free-space quantum key distribution, which ran from June 2020 to September 2023.
Compound Semiconductor Applications Catapult is a Newport research organisation. It is a partner in 2 UK projects: AIRQKD and QFoundry.
