Hitachi's UK quantum work runs through the Hitachi Cambridge Laboratory, part of Hitachi Europe, which studies qubits made from the spins of single electrons in silicon transistors cooled to very low temperatures. The lab has worked with the University of Cambridge's Cavendish Laboratory for three decades, and a partnership renewed in November 2019 set a practical quantum computer as the shared goal. Hitachi Europe was also a hardware partner in Riverlane's NISQ.OS consortium (2020 to 2023), developing processor firmware to connect with the Deltaflow.OS operating system, with a grant offer of £116,628.

Hitachi Europe, based in Stoke Poges, is a company. It appears as a partner in NISQ.OS.
