Merck KGaA, the Darmstadt science and technology group, approaches quantum computing as a future user in drug and materials research and as an investor. Its venture arm, M Ventures, put $5 million into superconducting quantum computing company SEEQC in April 2020, when Merck was also named a strategic partner. That link reached the UK through QuPharma (March 2022 to March 2025), a £5 million SEEQC UK-led consortium with Riverlane, STFC, Oxford and the Medicines Discovery Catapult, in which Merck helped choose drug discovery problems to run on a quantum computer working alongside an STFC supercomputer.

Merck is a company based in Darmstadt (outside the UK), included here for its part in UK quantum projects. It is a partner in 1 UK project: QuPharma.
