    Start-up · Leeds

NIQS Tech is building a needle-free glucose monitor that uses a patented photonic chip and an optical measurement technique designed to reduce the effect of skin tone and thickness on readings. The Leeds company's founders trained at the University of Leeds, and Innovate UK has funded its sensor development, including in-vivo studies from April 2024. Early human testing on 12 people, reported in July 2025, gave 97.5% of readings in the most accurate zone of the DTS error grid. NIQS became a partner in the Q-BIOMED quantum biomedical sensing hub in November 2025.

Founded in 2022, NIQS Tech is a start-up in Leeds focused on quantum sensing and photonics. It is a partner in 1 UK project: Q-BIOMED. Profiled here: Nicholas Furtak-Wells (CEO).
