QT Assemble: Integrate Quantum Technology Programme
QT Assemble
A three-year Fraunhofer CAP-led consortium to make quantum technology components smaller, more robust and easier to build.
Role: Partner
Themes: Materials and components, Sensing
Company · Edinburgh
Photon Force, based in Edinburgh, makes SPAD (single-photon avalanche diode) sensors and cameras, such as the PF32 range and the PF1D-1024 linear array, used in quantum optics, fluorescence lifetime imaging and imaging through scattering media. Chief executive Richard Walker co-founded it in 2015, having spent seven years as a researcher in the University of Edinburgh group run by Robert Henderson. In the £2.7m Innovate UK USPIS project led by Sonardyne, it is building a 1D SPAD array with on-board FPGA processing for underwater imaging. A cheaper 32x32 camera, the PF32-Lite, launched in April 2026.
Founded in 2015, Photon Force is a company in Edinburgh focused on quantum sensing, photonics and components. It is a partner in 1 UK project: QT Assemble. Profiled here: Richard Walker (Co-Founder and CEO).
