    Skylark Lasers

    Company · Edinburgh

Skylark Lasers, based in Edinburgh, builds single-frequency diode-pumped solid-state lasers, and for quantum users its main product is a 780 nm laser tuned to rubidium, the atom used in many interferometers and quantum memories. Its largest quantum project was NX Micro (August 2023 to February 2025), a £2.3 million Innovate UK programme with Heriot-Watt and Glasgow universities to bring a solid-state laser for quantum gravity sensors close to the price of cheaper diode lasers, validated with Birmingham spin-out Delta g. The company raised $5 million in October 2023 to push laser miniaturisation further.

Skylark Lasers is an Edinburgh company working on quantum components, photonics and sensing, founded in 2013. It is a partner in 2 UK projects: QT Assemble and Gravity Pioneer. Profiled here: Chris Madin (CEO).
