Singular Photonics designs single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) image sensors that do their processing on the chip, counting and time-stamping individual photons inside each pixel so that far less raw data has to leave the sensor. The fabless Edinburgh company grew out of Robert Henderson's CMOS Sensors and Systems group at the University of Edinburgh. In August 2026 it raised $2.15 million led by ACF Investors, with Scottish Enterprise and Quantum Exponential among the backers, after doubling its 2025 sales; in September it launched Litavis, a 3D-stacked 256 by 256 pixel sensor that captures intensity, picosecond timing and photon statistics at once.
Singular Photonics, based in Edinburgh, is a company whose work covers quantum photonics and hardware; it was founded in 2023. It is not yet linked to a UK project in this directory. Profiled here: Robert Henderson (Co-Investigator).
