Quantum computers need control chips that can sit inside the cryostat next to the qubits, and Sheffield memory IP designer sureCore has been adapting standard silicon to do that. It led a £4.8m Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund consortium from November 2021 to March 2025 with SEEQC, Universal Quantum, Synopsys, Semiwise, Oxford NanoScience and the University of Glasgow, building cryogenic design kits and circuit IP. The result, its CryoMem SRAM, register file and ROM IP on 180nm and 22FDX processes, went up for licence in November 2024, with 180nm test chips already proven at 77K.

sureCore is a Sheffield company. It leads 1 UK project (Development of cryo-CMOS to enable the next generation of scalable quantum computers).
