Innovate UK
Funder · Swindon
UKRI's business funder for quantum, behind the Commercialising Quantum Technologies Challenge, the Quantum Missions pilot and ProQure.
A government procurement programme to fund prototype quantum computers now and buy large-scale machines for national infrastructure in the 2030s.
Project data last updated 11 October 2026
ProQure was announced in March 2026 as part of a quantum package worth up to £2 billion. It is the government's programme to procure quantum computers at scale. The wider budget is up to £1 billion for buying large-scale quantum computers beyond 2030.
Innovate UK runs phase 1 as a Contracts for Innovation competition. It opened on 27 March 2026 and closed on 29 May 2026. Contracts are worth up to £14 million each, and Innovate UK expects to fund up to 10. Projects start on 1 October 2026, last 18 to 24 months, and must deliver an operational testbed for independent checks before July 2028. Successful firms may be invited to a phase 2 contract of up to £75 million.
