The award was announced on 17 March 2026 as part of a wider £2bn government quantum package. QATCH is led by the Quantum Software Lab in the School of Informatics, working with the National Quantum Computing Centre.
The programme covers software, algorithms and tools to check the results of quantum computers. Planned applications include healthcare, energy, finance and cyber security. Part of the money pays for new research posts and joint fellowships with industry.
