More than 50 researchers at the University of Edinburgh's Informatics Forum make up the Quantum Software Lab, which works on quantum algorithms, verification and quantum cyber security. In March 2026 the UK Government gave it £20 million for QATCH, a four-year programme run with the National Quantum Computing Centre to build the software and verification tools that make quantum computers useful and trustworthy. Energy is a second strand: in July 2026 a £6.2 million Ofgem Strategic Innovation Fund project with NESO, National Gas, SP Energy Networks and Cambridge Consultants began building an open-source Quantum Threat Tracker for energy networks.
Founded in 2023, Quantum Software Lab is a research organisation in Edinburgh focused on quantum computing and software. It leads 1 UK project (QATCH) and is a partner in 1 more. Profiled here: Elham Kashefi (Chief Scientist).
