QuBIC launched at Harwell Campus on 30 April 2024. It is run by the Science and Technology Facilities Council with support from the National Quantum Computing Centre. Companies can receive up to £50,000 of targeted R&D funding, up to £10,000 in vouchers for work with public sector partners, and business support such as coaching and investment readiness.
The first call focused on quantum computing hardware, software and applications. The first companies were Applied Quantum Computing, Finchetto and OpenQuantum. A later call in 2025 widened the scope to other quantum technologies, including sensing, imaging and networks.
