    Niobium, rather than the aluminium many rivals use, is the material behind Quantcore's superconducting processors, resonators and sensors, which it designs, fabricates and tests in Glasgow. The University of Glasgow spin-out was founded in August 2025 by Jack Brennan, Valentino Seferai, Wridhdhisom Karar and Martin Weides, and works from the university's James Watt Nanofabrication Centre and Mazumdar-Shaw Advanced Research Centre. PXN Ventures, Blackfinch Ventures and Scottish Enterprise co-led its £2.5m seed round in February 2026, and in June 2026 it won the Institute of Physics qBIG Prize.
