Southampton's quantum research spans physics, mathematics and the Optoelectronics Research Centre, linked through a university Quantum Technology Centre. In March 2024 EPSRC funding launched an £18m Centre for Doctoral Training in Quantum Technology Engineering, backed by Microsoft, QinetiQ, Riverlane and Oxford Ionics. The university partners in two current national hubs, IQN for networks and QuSIT for sensing, and earlier took part in the Gravity Pioneer gravity-sensing project and ORCA Computing's Quantum Data Centre of the Future.
