Founded in Cambridge in May 2021 by researchers from Toshiba's Quantum Information Group, Wave Photonics designs photonic integrated circuits and the process design kits foundries and chip designers need to build them, with quantum one of its main markets beside datacoms and sensing. Its QPICPAC assembly kit packages quantum photonic chips. In December 2023 it led a £500,000 Innovate UK project with Oxford Ionics, the CORNERSTONE foundry at Southampton and CSA Catapult on integrated photonics for trapped-ion quantum computers, and in June 2024 raised £4.5m in seed funding. Chip-based QKD start-up Xen Quantum spun out of it in 2026.
Founded in 2021, Wave Photonics is a company in Cambridge focused on quantum photonics and hardware. It is not yet linked to a UK project in this directory. Profiled here: James Lee (Co-Founder and CEO).
