Xen Quantum wants to shrink quantum key distribution onto chips, building QKD modules in silicon photonics with fabrication processes already proven for mass production so they can slot into existing telecom networks. Mirko Pittaluga (CEO) and Davide Scalcon (CTO) founded it as a spin-out of Wave Photonics, and the company was registered in Cambourne, near Cambridge, in January 2025. It came out of stealth in June 2026 with seed backing from Cambridge Enterprise, Parkwalk, QAI Ventures, Silicon Catalyst and Berkeley SkyDeck.
Xen Quantum is a Cambridge start-up working on quantum communications, qkd and cryptography, founded in 2025. It is not yet linked to a UK project in this directory. Profiled here: Mirko Pittaluga (Co-Founder and CEO).
