QMI: Quantum Metrology Institute
NPL's institute that provides measurement expertise and facilities for testing and validating quantum technologies.
Project data last updated 11 October 2026
About this project
The Quantum Metrology Institute was set up at the National Physical Laboratory in Teddington as part of the National Quantum Technologies Programme. It was formally opened on 5 November 2015.
It brings together NPL's quantum research with its time and frequency work. It offers academia and industry the expertise and facilities to test and validate quantum technologies, and supports work on standards. NPL is building an Advanced Quantum Metrology Laboratory at the Teddington site to expand this work.
