HSBC tests quantum computing on trading and pricing problems and quantum key distribution on its own networks. It was the first bank on the BT and Toshiba quantum-secured metro network in London, and in December 2023 used it to protect a €30m euro-dollar trade on its AI Markets terminal over 63km of fibre to its Slough data centre. With IBM it reported in September 2025 that a hybrid quantum-classical model improved bond fill-rate predictions by up to 34% in back-tests on Heron processors. It is also a partner in the BT-led QAssure project.
