Q-BIOMED, the UK Quantum Biomedical Sensing Research Hub, develops quantum sensors aimed at earlier diagnosis of cancer, Alzheimer's, cardiovascular and infectious disease through ultra-sensitive blood tests, faster MRI and portable instruments. One of five hubs in the £160m national network, it draws on UCL, Cambridge, Oxford, Warwick, Cardiff and Heriot-Watt, with John Morton, Mete Atatüre and Molly Stevens as co-directors. EPSRC's Accelerating Capability Fund added £902,000 in May 2026, and in July 2026 hub-affiliated teams won nine of the 17 NIHR i4i FAST quantum awards.
