Glasgow leads QEPNT, the national hub for quantum position, navigation and timing, under principal investigator Douglas Paul. Its £21.9m EPSRC grant runs from December 2024 to November 2029, and the work targets quantum clocks and position sensors that reduce dependence on satellite signals. Before that the university led QuantIC, the national quantum imaging hub, and in September 2021 it opened a Centre for Quantum Technology, directed by Miles Padgett, which draws on the James Watt Nanofabrication Centre. Quantcore, a Glasgow spin-out building quantum hardware, won the Institute of Physics qBIG prize in June 2026.
