Quantum biomedicine is UCL's flagship national role: it leads Q-BIOMED, the hub building quantum sensors for earlier diagnosis of cancer, heart disease and Alzheimer's, with Cambridge, Oxford, Warwick, Cardiff and Heriot-Watt. John Morton, who directs the UCL Quantum Science and Technology Institute, is the hub's principal investigator, and in May 2026 it gained £902,000 from EPSRC's Accelerating Capability Fund to bring in new collaborators and map clinical needs with UCLPartners. UCL researchers co-founded the algorithms company Phasecraft in 2019 with the University of Bristol, and Morton is also a founder of silicon qubit maker Quantum Motion.

University College London, in London, appears in six UK quantum projects listed here. In this directory it leads Q-BIOMED and is a partner in 5 more. People profiled here include John Morton (Co-Director and PI) and Toby Cubitt (Co-Founder).
