Oxford leads QCi3, the national research hub for quantum computing, funded with £21.9m from EPSRC for 2024 to 2029 and directed by Dominic O'Brien; it also led the preceding Quantum Computing and Simulation Hub from 2019. Trapped ions are a particular strength. In February 2025 David Lucas's group reported in Nature a distributed algorithm run across two ion-trap modules linked by photons. Companies built on Oxford research include Oxford Ionics, which IonQ bought in 2025, and Quantum Motion, co-founded with UCL.

University of Oxford, in Oxford, appears in 10 UK quantum projects listed here. In this directory it leads QCi3 and QCS and is a partner in 8 more. People profiled here include Andrew Daley (PI), Dominic O'Brien (Director) and Natalia Ares (Co-Founder and Chief Scientist).
